National Pet Wellness Month is in October and it’s a month dedicated to promoting pet health and wellness. Pets are important members of our family and we should educate ourselves on how best to take care of them.
3 Steps For Pet Wellness
Schedule regular wellness appointments with your veterinarian.
These routine visits can help your veterinarian diagnose and treat acute illnesses, administer necessary vaccinations, and prevent serious health problems.
Keep your pet’s weight under control.
It is estimated that more than half of all pets are obese. While a chubby cat may look cute, the health problems associated with excess body fat are not cute. Obese animals run the risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes, liver problems, and other complications. Your veterinarian can tailor a plan to help you manage your pet’s weight. In addition to portion control and high-quality food, they might also recommend not feeding your pet table scraps and giving them daily exercise.
Do not neglect dental health.
Take it from someone whose cat’s dental problems resulted in twelve extractions and a hefty vet bill, dental problems are not to be ignored. Be sure to schedule regular dental cleanings with your veterinarian and keep up dental care at home. If your pet tolerates getting their teeth brushed, do it. Otherwise, dental treats, chew sticks, and water additives are all great options.

It’s never too late to give your pets a happy, healthy life! Schedule a wellness exam with your local veterinary clinic today!
